What is Counselling?
Counselling practitioners work cooperatively with clients to
develop responses to difficult life circumstances.
Issues may include
depression, self-esteem, anxiety, grief and loss, communication and
relationships, work and career, stress, life transitions and difficulties caused by addictions, trauma and abuse.
Counselling usually addresses particular issues or concerns for
an individual, couple or family. The counsellor will focus with the client on
dealing with the feelings and reactions experienced, and will assist the client
in developing his or her own resources to find a way of moving forward. Issues of personal meaning,
relationship to self, and the impact of past events and trauma are dealt with.
Sally acknowledges that many clients share their initial feelings of nervousness and concern in "talking to a stranger about their problems”. This is why she focuses on providing a calm, pleasant and relaxing environment and engages with people in a positive and professional approach.
How can counselling assist me?
Through the counselling process, clients are assisted to
gain insight, to become aware of choices they did not initially recognise, to
find more effective ways of
relating, and to develop personal resources and resilience.
There are many different styles of counselling and Sally uses an
integrated approach to therapy, drawing on a range of well researched theories
and frameworks including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Theory, Systems Theory, Person
Centred and Solution Focused approaches.
Sally encourages the clients to approach counselling as an
opportunity for education, problem solving and skill development.
What is the common format of
counselling sessions?
Sally can provide:
- face to face counselling sessions for individuals who attend her practice in
New Farm.
- appointments within a client’s workplace on specifc
days of the week (if agreed by all parties).
- counselling to remote clients via telephone
and Skype.
Confidentiality?
All information provided to your
counsellor is confidential except in the case of a court order (subpoena),
disclosure of a serious criminal offence or a life-threatening situation
(suicidal or homicidal intent).
Presently occurring sexual or other abuse of
children will be reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
Sally is a registered with the
Queensland Counsellors Association and Psychology and Counselling Federation of
Australia and follows the ethical standards of each body while maintaining her
own professional supervision and professional development requirements for
registration.
How long is a typical
counselling session?
Both initial
consultation and ongoing sessions for counselling are allocated 60 minutes.
It
is important to arrive at least 15 minutes early for your first session, as
there are forms to complete while waiting at reception. This will ensure you are able to use
the total 60 minute session in counselling with Sally, rather than in the
completion of the forms.
Cancellations & Missed Appointments
A fee equal to half your normal
consultation fee will be incurred if you do not give at least 24 hours notice
or fail to attend your appointment (excluding emergencies and circumstances
beyond your control).
This enables us to keep costs to a minimum and make times
available for other clients.
Payment Methods
Payment
methods are EFTPOS, credit cards or cash, please note that we do not accept
Diners Club or American Express.
